Linguistics needs YOU

die_monster 's visit draws to an end (T_______T), I'm gonna be using this more often again. XD Got my paid account back, gonna extend my userpics when they expire soon, and it's SNOWY SIX time.
Now, two points of order.
1) Christmas cards. I've got the addresses of most people still from last year, so I'll only need your address if it's changed or if I didn't know you back then (alycorn and platoapproved , for example). Or if you didn't get one last year, but want one this year. Or if you want a card from the TARDIS. Or something. Comments are screened, of course.
2) One of my linguistics teachers is doing a project and is making us find informants who wouldn't mind filling out a questionnaire online for research on intercultural communication. The questionnaire I'm supposed to spread is here; it'll take only about 12 minutes and concerns word associations. Any help at all would be very appreciated. If you've got a few more minutes to spare and feel like contributing to linguistic research (of course you do, language is awesome!), there's a few more questionnaires here, particularly concerning polite requests and complaints. This is fascinating stuff for linguists and you'd be helping a great deal. The projects aren't just addressed to English speakers either; the goal is really to compare responses in different languages, so to all my non-English flisters - please have a look if you've got some time. :) And feel free to share the links with anyone you know who might also be interested!

'1,9,15,and 21 are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from 4. Do they succeed?'
'Under what circumstances might 5 and 7 fall in love?'
'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?'
'What Pokémon would 8 have?'
'Write a drabble in which 16 and 19 FIGHT CRIME.' (...possibly not technically a question.)
3) After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the twenty-one characters people you selected beforehand, then post them.

I'm currently freaking out about a presentation I've been procrastinating on too long (I blame die_monster , if she was around she would have made me work by now, bawww), so clearly the answer is more procrastination! In the form of writing down thoughts on the Doctor Who finale, mostly questions/plot holes that I noticed or have seen around LJ, and my collection of answers, so I can refer to it for RP and to look smarter than everyone else.
General (non-spoilery) thoughts, for those who don't know yet: This was easily the most amazing finale of New Who, and probably the most amazing two parter too, in my opinion. I'm not even going to bother listing what I loved, because I loved, oh about 90% of it.

Step 2: Post the first line (unless the first line reveals the song title) from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarassing. Skip the instrumental-only pieces (non-English too if you want).
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and title correctly. (If it's a cover, the original artist is okay, and vice-versa.)
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like this game, post your own!

First week of school wasn't bad, just exhausting because of having to get up early. AND WHY DID IT HAVE TO COINCIDE WITH EVERYONE AND THE KITCHEN SINK GETTING ON SKYPE? Late night hilarious Scrabble chat sessions are not conductive to a good sleeping schedule. But awesome, so there's that.

2) Have returned to Eichstaett. It's nice to be back in my own "home" and getting to keep to my own schedule again, but of course it's also weird being alone. Suspect I may get a bit lonely the next few days, but we'll see. Next week I get to just hang out and study for Middle English, and the week after classes start. Nooot looking forward to it so much. I'M READY TO BE DONE WITH THIS COLLEGE BUSINESS. Blah.

Jan. 19th, 2010 06:17 amPfft, what am I doing, YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS, SELF. THERE IS HOMEWORK AND TAGGING AND STUDYING TO BE DONE. Gosh. Anyway, since I'm curious what my f-list will come up with for this...
The firstten (or so) let's make that five for my to-do list's sake people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to can, if they so wish, post this in their journal.
Personally, I believe I'm only good for things that involve the TARDIS, and I've never managed to write a 100-word drabble in my life. So keep that in mind. XD
1.echarperouge would like Six&Mel, and her wish shall be my command.
2. Forhobbit_feets , there will be Zagreus/Ianto+TARDIS. The ship is already facepalming, tyvm.
3.cosmic_celery knows one of Evelyn Smythe's many talents.
4.mertondingle has mercy with me and allows me to write Ianto/TARDIS instead of Rosencrantz/Guildenstern/Ianto.
5.narcissisma pretty much fails at requesting anything, but gets something anyway.
