ALRIGHT. Now that my beloved [livejournal.com profile] die_monster  's visit draws to an end (T_______T), I'm gonna be using this more often again. XD Got my paid account back, gonna extend my userpics when they expire soon, and it's SNOWY SIX time.

Now, two points of order.
1) Christmas cards. I've got the addresses of most people still from last year, so I'll only need your address if it's changed or if I didn't know you back then ([livejournal.com profile] alycorn and [livejournal.com profile] platoapproved , for example). Or if you didn't get one last year, but want one this year. Or if you want a card from the TARDIS. Or something. Comments are screened, of course.

2) One of my linguistics teachers is doing a project and is making us find informants who wouldn't mind filling out a questionnaire online for research on intercultural communication. The questionnaire I'm supposed to spread is here; it'll take only about 12 minutes and concerns word associations. Any help at all would be very appreciated. If you've got a few more minutes to spare and feel like contributing to linguistic research (of course you do, language is awesome!), there's a few more questionnaires here, particularly concerning polite requests and complaints. This is fascinating stuff for linguists and you'd be helping a great deal. The projects aren't just addressed to English speakers either; the goal is really to compare responses in different languages, so to all my non-English flisters - please have a look if you've got some time. :) And feel free to share the links with anyone you know who might also be interested!

dragonessa24: (internet - research paper)

First week of school wasn't bad, just exhausting because of having to get up early. AND WHY DID IT HAVE TO COINCIDE WITH EVERYONE AND THE KITCHEN SINK GETTING ON SKYPE? Late night hilarious Scrabble chat sessions are not conductive to a good sleeping schedule. But awesome, so there's that.

I would list my frankly fascinating classes, but I need to listen to [livejournal.com profile] narcissisma 's MANTOAST playlist now. (♥ bb)
dragonessa24: (Default)
1) New default icon, because snow has no place in April. And because Eleven/TARDIS is pure, undeniable awesome.

2) Have returned to Eichstaett. It's nice to be back in my own "home" and getting to keep to my own schedule again, but of course it's also weird being alone. Suspect I may get a bit lonely the next few days, but we'll see. Next week I get to just hang out and study for Middle English, and the week after classes start. Nooot looking forward to it so much. I'M READY TO BE DONE WITH THIS COLLEGE BUSINESS. Blah.
3) MEME )
dragonessa24: (himym: de-waitforit-lightful)
Proof that my parents love me after all: They sent me a tea advent calendar (which also inexplicably included a CD with violin music, but hey, I'm not complaining). That is kind of awesome, y/y? I get to drink a different kind of tea all through December!

Less awesome: ear infection. Ow ow ow. Last time I had this it was mostly gone the next day, so there's hoping. But owww, not fun.

More awesome again: Cuppycakes! I'm going to bake them now and then I'm going to decorate them for Doctor Who. I even got dark blue napkins to fashion a cape for the Maylin Cupcake. :P It's gonna be fuuuun.
dragonessa24: (tardis/zagreus)
Hmm, I could probably stand to update this here thing. Sooo, two days after I got back from Oxford, I got a nice mean cold. Took a couple of days to get better, nothing tragic, but I STILL HAVE THE COUGH. I swear it's getting worse instead of better. And there's not even any congestion or anything! It's just this awful feeling deep in my chest and it's making me cough until I wheeze. WTF, lungs, get a grip.

School started this week. My classes are alright, I guess. The change in sleeping schedule is horrendous, of course, making me ready to go to sleep right about now (at 7pm, pffft). Having to get up at 7 and 8 on Thursdays and Fridays respectively doesn't help. The class on vampires in American popular culture promises to be fun, even though I won't get to do a presentation on vampires in science fiction, because I could only think of SGA's Wraith and the vampires in Doctor Who, which don't count because it's British. Meh. What really scares me about that class is that I have to read Twilight for it. O_O And today I had Text Production. Bleargh, writing. But I've lived through two of those courses before, I'll survive this one as well.

Hahaha, did I just say bleargh writing? Yeah, I signed up for NaNoWriMo. DX I was peer pressured into it, and [personal profile] mertondingle convinced me by saying I could be a NaNo Rebel and just not write a novel. Using it as an incentive to write shorter stuff seems much less scary. I just wish I had an idea. :( Probably gonna end up having something to do with Doctor Who and particularly the TARDIS, because RPing her is eating my brain right now. It's so bad, I went and bought a plush Jabberwock because of it. I'll name it Zagreus. XD Also, the icon.

And uhm, I think that's it. I can't be sure, because I'm totally sleepy right now. I think I need sleep before I can write the opposites day post for brbg. Yes, sounds good.
dragonessa24: (big finish love)
Sooo, I'm back home in my dorm room. No major disasters have occurded here while I was gone, except that I seem to have missed some sort of official letter, possibly from the student support people. :/ Have to figure that out tomorrow. Other than that, the only bad thing is that I'm freaking lonely once again. Buuut not for long, because OXFORD! IN THREE DAYS! WOO! I'm so excited.

We got the program for our stay a few days ago, and it's awesome. There's lots of lectures and tours around Oxford University and such, but also cultural things like a night at the Catweazle Club and Blenheim Palace (yeah, I've never heard of it before either, but it looks great on the website). And on Monday we're going to London. We'll be busy until 5.30pm, but after that we get free time. Which I've got no idea what to do with, since all the interesting places I want to go to close at 5 such as the setting of Jubilee, aka the Tower of London. I don't know if I've got anyone on my flist who lives around there and would be up for a meeting, but I'd love to have someone to check out the last real Police Box in Earl's Court with. ;) Suggestions for what else to do there are also welcome.

I'm also finally catching up with the Six & Charley audios, yay. I've finished all the Eight&Charley ones, by the end of which I had really gotten to like C'rizz and even Charley (I didn't really enjoy her before). Last night I listened to The Doomwood Curse, which was so much fun, omg. Only in Doctor Who land can you be possessed by novels. XD Once I'm back here I'm going to order a couple of audio CDs from Big Finish omg are the studios in London? I could go worship the ground they stand on. Right now I'm thinking Zagreus and Jubilee, possibly also The Next Life and The Holy Terror. Oh, and ...Ish! Need to listen to that again before I leave too, since it's so fitting and all. XD Any more suggestions? My requirements are basically awesome story + pretty cover art, lol.

Gotta go make lots of lists now, of things I need to do before the trip and what groceries to buy tomorrow so I don't have food sitting around for a week that really shouldn't. Which sucks because thinking of food is making my stomach turn right now, blah. But! After that I can listen to Brotherhood of the Daleks or watch another Hornblower. I'm quite smitten with that series, heh. So much manliness and prettiness and honor. XD And I believe the next episode has Paul McGann, woo!
dragonessa24: (internet friends)

Hello all, I'm back! I see most of you did the sensible thing and ignored my lovely friend

[livejournal.com profile] imwithrebel 's rambling. She has a very vivid imagination. ;) Anyway, like she said in the comments, the internet fail probably had something to do with the fact that my parents' providers switched something around or upgraded or whatever. However, we got a letter today saying the switch is going to happen on the 22nd. O_o Sooo, I may very well be gone again for an indeterminable amount of time. :-/ I'm sorry for any inconveniences I know I'm not that important, but still and I'm sorry I ruined [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush this weekend.

Protestations of "yay you're back!" are welcome. ;)
dragonessa24: (Pregnant!)
Hello Laura's friends list! This is [livejournal.com profile] imwithrebel, Laura's bff from Georgia, here to update you on all of the latest news about Laura! Laura asked me via text message to hack into her account and update her lj buddies as to why she hasn't been online and won't be back again for several days.

You see, Laura got herself knocked up and her baby daddy kicked her out. Due to her fragile condition, she is unsure how she will ever find a way to support herself and the poor baby, though she assures me that getting an Internet connection is the number one priority on her to-do list. She hopes she won't have to resort to desperate measures aka prostitution, but also knows she must act quickly before she and the poor child she is carrying freeze to death since it is always cold in Germany.

Well, it's either that or her internet is broken and they are unsure when it will be fixed again. I'll let you be the judge. ;)

Oh, and any comments you leave to this post will totally make my day, especially if they aren't the typical mushy-gushy "OMGILLMISSYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!!!!!!!" crap.

Let the Laura bashing begin!!!!!!!

It really is totally cool though if you want to leave her the mushy love nonsense about how you can't bear to live a day without her though. It is her journal after all. Plus I'm sure she needs it given her "condition" right now. ;)

Yes, I know Laura will kill me for this when she comes back, but it is totally worth it.

While I wait for my super slow CD drive to copy a file to my computer, I thought I'd write a little update.

- On Tuesday I had my written exam for English. The translation was a newspaper article about the British Royal House, so I was lacking some vocabulary and I blanked on some turns of phrases that I know I know, so that was frustrating. But all in all it went well enough. I didn't end up reading my 50 pages per day as usual, and with barely a week left I should really get on it now. XD I'm sure I'll pass the oral exam, it's mostly just about not looking like an idiot in front of my teachers.

- I'm going to start belly dancing again. Yay for losing weight! I'll be off doing it for an hour once I finish this post.

- [personal profile] faience  is my hero.

- I don't know if it's a good idea, but I kind of want to rp the TARDIS from Turn Left. The one whose Doctor died. Baww yeah. But I can't think of a good journal name! I've been trying to think of something involving emptiness or darkness, but nothing comes to mind. Any suggestions?

- The files are ready. *pats laptop* Good old boy.

dragonessa24: (eight feet)
#1 I picked up the grade for my paper and am officially good to go for my exams. Phew! I calculated that I need to read 50 pages a day to get through the material in time. Joy.

#2 (not at all related to #1, no sir) At all you RP people on my flist - what's some nice RP communities you can recommend, and why?

#3 I made a shippy vid! It probably won't make a whole lot of sense to you if you're not part of [livejournal.com profile] brb_gallifrey , but it's still adorable. The happy couple is Romana and Frobisher the penguin... it's less cracky than you might think, honest! XD

Here's a downloadable version, if you are so inclined (wmv, 12MB).

Spent all day cleaning my room and am exhausted now. You might think cleaning a room isn't that hard, but there were huge piles of stuff everywhere - dirty dishes, dirty clothes, books... Even I don't usually let things pile up that much, but I've been too busy. Anyway, much nicer now.

I've also started working on an awesome vid. The topic is sekkrit, suffice to say it will be adorable.

Also also, I went to the mall for groceries and ended up buying something on a whim.

I blame cosmic_celery entirely. )
Pointless post is pointless.

dragonessa24: (six stop)
I just finished my research paper and sent it off. Now I can only wait and hope hope hope that the teacher will be so incredibly generous to grade it and get the certificate to me in time. I guess whatever the outcome, at least I tried... Won't be much of a comfort though if I have to face my parents and grandparents and tell them I can't take the English exam. *sighs* I would deserve it though. Am I the only one who does this kind of crap? Every time this happens, I tell myself I'll manage things better next time, that I'll start earlier and get done in time, and I really believe it... But then I don't do it. Blah.

Whatever, need something to eat and then gotta do a phone call, and then... hang out on the internet I suppose, 2pm is a bit late to go to bed. Might go and watch Earthshock... or City of Death! Yes, that's supposed to be happy fun times, I can use that. Oh, and I need to make an "I Love You Thank You So Much" surprise present thingy for [livejournal.com profile] imwithrebel  for pushing me onwards all the way through the paper. I wouldn't have started, let alone finished without her help.

Thank you guys also for all the good luck wishes and for letting me whine to you, it did make me feel better. <3

Edit : OMG, can I be so lucky? The teacher just replied that she'll try to grade my paper until Friday.  Omgggg.

I'm going to be a hermit this weekend, because I've got a huge thing to work on... so I need to stay away from the interwebs. Hopefully I won't miss anything too much fun, but if there's something so awesome you think I need to see it, or want to cheer me up or something, feel free to post here because I'll be grovelling back to the internet in a couple hours anyway. Well, I'm going to get a few more hours of sleep, and then I'll get started... Wish me luck.

Since I cave as easily as a soufflé, I have joined Twitter today. Come follow me if you like so I can stalk you.

Last Saturday I ordered something on a whim, and now I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail. It'll be too big to fit in the mail box, so I want to be here when it arrives. I even skipped class today for it, but it didn't get here. >:(

[livejournal.com profile] fic_rush  worked really well to get me writing last time, so I'm going to try and apply the same principle to that paper I need to write (and finish this week!). I'll update this entry every hour with the progress I've made, starting at 10. Obviously it's a lot harder to do on my own, but I think I'll feel more accountable if I put it up here where everyone can see it. So anyway, hope it works!

10pm: aim for the rest of the night is to get an introduction going
11pm: I am ridiculously blocked on this. Though at least I wrote two sentences and have actually been focusing on it for once.
12am: Have not gotten anywhere *kicks it* Will probably watch TW in half an hour.

I GET TO GO TO OXFORD, YAAAY!

I just got an email that I'm allowed to join the excursion in October. :D Next Thursday there will be a meeting to talk about the details and all, so I'll see if I know anyone else then. I'm so happy and excited. I bet it will be awesome and fascinating.

It's also nice to have some good news in the middle of all the stress and bad feelings I'm going through because I'm not working as much as I should. I'm frightened of the paper, I still have to find literature for the exams, then actually read the literature, and also improve the US presentation because I didn't give it last Monday. I did get out of the UK presentation (for which I feel slightly guilty, because the teacher didn't seem all too happy), but more bureaucracy has floated into my mailbox. I just keep thinking, once this is all over (tentative date for the Ethnology exam is mid August), I get a summer with no Latin or papers to worry about and the excursion to look forward to. So that's great and I can't wait.

Wheee Oxford!

What Laura has to do:
- a presentation on the environment in the US (due next Monday, has to be in presentable form tomorrow and I haven't even started)
- a presentation on the media in Britain (due July 8)
- 10 page paper on Alice in Wonderland (due in less than a month, and that's cutting it close)
- read a couple hundred pages as preparation for the English exam
- find and read about 100 pages of literature on a topic of my choosing, also for the English exam (due first week of July)
- talk to my Ethnology teacher about topics and a date for that exam (which is gonna be awkward because I haven't done any Ethnology classes in the last two years or so)
- read probably also a couple hundred pages in preparation for the Ethnology exam
- annual paperwork for my student money (preferably within this month)

What Laura wants to do:
- belly dancing to lose weight
- write arbitrarabbles
- write the "Six and Tegan have to take part in a Most Garish Costume Contest" fic I started
- not be scared as hell by all the work

...

:(

dragonessa24: (six/rani)
I’m sitting in the train home to my parents to spend the long weekend there (well, when I post this I won’t be in the train anymore :P) and to hang out. I’m rather looking forward to the break and the being served (and to the cats, yay!). It’s nice not to have to do anything, though I did take some work with me, because I can’t afford to not do crap for five days this semester (more on that later). Sadly the weather is supposed to be bad, so we won’t get to do a barbeque like we wanted.
School, school, and... belly dancing )

dragonessa24: (6 wtf)
I'm making banners for fic awards while getting drunk on Corfu cumquat liquor and listening to Doctor Who and the Pirates songs. It is great fun. Six's hair gave me a lot of grief earlier (and it took forever to find a pic of him looking indignant, can you believe that?), but I think I have managed to make a rather cute banner out of him and Evelyn. Now on to Godzilla!

I didn't know Morrissey wears decorative vegetables. We watched a music video with that guy in... well I'd guess you call it British Cultural Studies, and I couldn't stop looking at that green thing on his jacket. I doubt that's what the teacher (a little old British lady who's a lot of fun ♥) intended when she showed it to us.

The linguistics faculty offers a trip to Oxford and London in October. A week for about 250€, with lots of interesting stuff to look at, like the British Museum and the Oxford University Press, plus free time to do whatever. I wanna go, but I don't know anyone in the class. D: Well, except for a middle aged woman, but she's kind of weird and I doubt she'll go anyway. So, I certainly don't wanna run around London on my own, but I don't wanna attach myself to some group of chicks who just go shopping either. Curse my strange case of social awkwardness (I'm not awkward when talked to, but I just... don't make contact with anyone on my own, so I generally don't get talked to). I shall ponder this more.

[livejournal.com profile] imwithrebel , I hope you're having fun at Disney World! Anyone who doesn't know you're having to keep your sisters updated would think you're being obnoxiously spammy on facebook. ;)

My hair is still wet. I remembered too late that I had to wash it, so when I did it was too late to blow dry it (because of the noise), so now I'm waiting for it to dry on its own before I can go to bed. Well, I've got plenty of banners to keep me busy. Sadly I just drank the last of my liquor.
dragonessa24: (bitch)
Bah, being back at college sucks. I already miss the comforts of Hotel Mom and Dad, where I could sit around the living room all day and only had to cook when I felt like it. Now I've got to run around shopping, signing up for stuff, and struggling to get my schedule together because there's so little classes left for the poor Magister students. At least my room looks nice now because I spent all Sunday afternoon cleaning up and setting up all the stuff I brought with me, and the sunny weather makes it hard to be in too bad a mood. Still, being on my own sucks.
