Title: Change
Characters: Sixth Doctor, the TARDIS
Rating: G
Spoilers: None really, but you probably need to have seen Attack of the Cybermen.
Word count: 219
Summary: Sometimes change is not a good thing.
So the Doctor wanted her to change, to blend in with her surroundings – something he himself blatantly refused to do. When he began determinately poking around in her machinery to fix the Chameleon Circuit, she decided that this new incarnation, so full of boundless energy and zeal, needed to be taught a lesson.
"Oh neat, Doctor," Peri later exclaimed, laughing. The Time Lord turned around and took in his ship's new form, a sour expression spreading on his face.
Floral patterns? Really? What are you even trying to be, a kitchen appliance? He thought at her with all the annoyance he could muster, agitated by Peri's wretched giggling and a faint feeling of betrayal.
Those colors alone could draw anyone's attention! How is this at all inconspicuous? He went on, but in response the flower decor simply glowed even brighter, giving him the distinct impression of being mocked. Little did he know that this was only the beginning of several ridiculous looks and a smug silence emanating from his ship.
At the end of the day, however, after the Doctor had nearly frozen to death and witnessed the murder of innocent Cryons, the TARDIS was a blue police box again. He patted the familiar shape gratefully, receiving a gentle hum in return, and never asked her to change again.
